The iconic Byron Bay Rugby 7s is back on the calendar for 2024, promising an exciting weekend of fast-paced action and community spirit.

This year, the event will be held on the weekend of October 18th-20th, with NSW Rugby Union and the NSW Positive Rugby Foundation once again stepping up to deliver an unforgettable experience.

The 2024 edition will introduce a new format, making it more accessible and engaging for participants and spectators alike. The main tournament will kick off on Saturday, October 19th, featuring women’s, premier men’s, and social men’s events in a one-day, high-energy competition.

Following that, on Sunday, October 20th, the spotlight will turn to the next generation of rugby stars with a Youth 7s tournament for U12s, U14s, and U16s. This new addition aims to nurture young talent and provide a platform for future champions to showcase their skills.

Eddy Brown of Byron Bay Rugby Club expressed his gratitude for the continued support, stating,

“We’re incredibly thankful to the NSW Positive Rugby Foundation for their unwavering support in ensuring the Byron Bay Rugby 7s goes ahead this year. Their commitment to the community and the sport is what makes this event possible, and we’re excited to see it all come together.”

Joey de Dassel, Program Manager for NSW Rugby Union, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, saying,

“It’s truly exciting to be able to help this iconic event remain an important part of the rugby calendar. The new format, which includes a Youth 7s event, adds another layer of excitement, and we can’t wait to see the next generation of rugby talent take the field in Byron Bay.”

Adding to the excitement, the NSW Positive Rugby Foundation will host a special Rugby Luncheon on Friday, October 18th.

This event will feature appearances by Australian Olympians, Classic Wallabies, and some of the biggest names in rugby.

All funds raised from the luncheon will stay within the local community, directly supporting the ongoing delivery of the Foundation’s groundbreaking Rugby For Good programs, which use rugby as a tool for positive change across NSW.

Head of the NSW Positive Rugby Foundation, Peter Murphy, spoke about the event, saying “We’re extremely proud to be involved in such an iconic event.

The Rugby Luncheon on Friday is an opportunity for the local Rugby Community on the Far North Coast to come together and listen to some of the greats of the game, but also hear about and support the wonderful work of the Positive Rugby Foundation.

Our Rugby For Good programs are genuinely changing lives and we are thrilled to be able to bring this work to the local area.”

With rugby fever sweeping the nation, now is the perfect time to gather your team—whether for the senior event or the new Youth 7s— to come and join the action in one of the most beautiful locations Australia has to offer.

Keep an eye out for further details and ticketing options, and be ready to be part of a rugby experience like no other.
